When I first saw McGuinness Glazed Donut liquor, I knew that I had to get it, because, as I’m sure you’ve heard, John has a thing for donuts (see the Donut Tour of Toronto here, and the Donut Pillow/Costume DIY here). I created a few donut-inspired signature drinks for John’s housewarming party. I served them as shots, but some of them would make delicious cocktails as well. They were very well received.
Please note that I do Not recommend substituting donut glazed vodka for the McGuinness glazed donut liquor, because the McGuinness product is very very sweet and relatively low in alcohol content (17%). The other ingredients in the following recipes were chosen to balance out the sweetness and/or to increase the alcohol content. So, if you’re using any other glazed donut alcoholic product, I would only suggest using the recipes below for inspiration.
Glazed Donut Shot Recipe
3 parts McGuinness Glazed Donut liquor, chilled in the refrigerator
1 part vodka, chilled in the refrigerator or freezer
In a martini shaker or glass pitcher, gently stir all of the ingredients together. Adjust ratio to taste and pour into shot glasses. Serve immediately.
Chocolate Glazed Donut Shot Recipe
3 parts McGuinness Glazed Donut liquor, chilled in the refrigerator
1 part vodka, chilled in the refrigerator or freezer
1/2 part chocolate liquor OR dark chocolate sauce to taste (Note: The dark chocolate sauce that I used was very chocolatey, so I only needed about 1 tablespoon of chocolate for 1 cup of glazed donut liquor + 1/3 cup vodka. Add your own chocolate sauce to taste and make sure that the chocolate does not overpower the glazed donut flavour.)
In a martini shaker or glass pitcher, gently stir all of the ingredients together. Adjust ratios to taste and pour into shot glasses. Serve immediately.
Other Glazed Donut Shot Ideas:
Boston Cream Donut Shot – Mix together 3 parts McGuinness Glazed Donut liquor with 1 part vodka and pour into shot glasses. Then top each shot glass with a piped rosette of whipped cream. Drizzle over some dark chocolate sauce or garnish with chocolate shavings, and serve immediately. If you have leftover whipped cream, you can freeze it (see here for instructions)!
Cinnamon Glazed Donut Shots – Mix together McGuinness Glazed Donut liquor with Goldschläger liqueur to taste.
Jelly Donut Shots – Mix together McGuinness Glazed Donut liquor with pureed fresh or frozen strawberries or raspberries to taste. Alternatively, you could use a strawberry or raspberry liqueur instead of pureed fruit. If the shot is too sweet for your taste, mix in some vodka.
Coffee and Donuts Shot/Cocktail – Mix together McGuinness Glazed Donut liquor with brewed and chilled coffee to taste OR mix together 3 parts McGuinness Glazed Donut liquor, 1 part vodka, and coffee liqueur to taste.
Coffee and Donuts Jello Shooters – You might even want to try making coffee and donut jello shooters. I would try substituting some of the sweetened condensed milk with the glazed donut liquor in a coffee jello recipe.
