Kitty Litter Cake

In Cake Decorating, Halloween on January 27, 2010 at am

I’ve made this Kitty Litter Cake twice now and it always gets the best reactions out of people.  I’ve had people laugh, gag, and I even had someone think that it was actually kitty litter sitting on top of my table  🙂  The best part is that everyone’s always surprised at how Good it tastes.  There are several variations on the internet but this is how I’ve done it.

Kitty Litter Cake Recipe

1 box chocolate cake mix
1 box white cake mix
1 large package chocolate instant pudding mix
1 large package vanilla Oreo cookies
4 – 6 small Tootsie Rolls

green food colouring
1 new kitty litter pan
1 new pooper scooper

Bake the cakes as per the instructions on the boxes.  Let cool completely.  Prepare pudding mix and chill.

Using a food processor, crumble the vanilla Oreo cookies.  Set aside 1/8 cup of the cookie crumbs.  Add a few drops of green food colouring to this 1/4 cup of cookie crumbs and mix.  This will look like the chlorophyll that you find in real kitty litter.

Using your hands, crumble both cakes into a large bowl.  Mix in the pudding.  Gently mix in 1/3 of the white cookie crumbs.  Line a new, clean kitty litter box with parchment paper.  Put the cake mixture into the litter box.  Press the cake down into the box.  Sprinkle the rest of the white cookie crumbs over the top to cover the cake completely.  Then sprinkle the green cookie crumbs randomly.

Working with 2 tootsie rolls at a time, heat the unwrapped tootsie rolls in the microwave until slightly soft and pliable (heat in 3 second intervals).  Shape the ends so they are no longer blunt and curve the poop.  You can bury some of these in the cake and/or you can lay some on top.  I usually have one lying off one of the sides of the kitty litter box as if the cat almost missed.  Sprinkle some of the cookie crumbs over the tootsie rolls.   Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around the box.
